Construction
Leveraging the successful outcomes of Metro's Project Labor Agreement/Construction Careers Policy (PLA/CCP), WIN-LA will provide opportunities for participants to gain training and education for careers within the construction industry.
Bus Operator
- About the Job: Operate public transportation buses to transport passengers.
- What You'll Do: Operate buses within defined routes, collect fares from passengers, operate wheelchair lift and assist passengers with disabilities, perform safety inspections of bus equipment.
- Things You Need to Know: Ensure passengers and bystanders are safe at all times. Traffic laws. Mathematics, including basic money and time concepts.
- Abilities You'll Need to Have: Operation monitoring to watch gauges, dials
and other indicators to make sure buses are operating properly. Critical thinking to exercise sound judgment in stressful situations. Maneuvering in traffic and navigating around potential road hazards. - Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires six months of public contact or customer service experience, a valid California Class C driver's license and a good driving record. Applicants must obtain
a MP Permit prior to offer of employment. - Living Wage Pay Range: $15.82 - $24.34 per hour
Custodian
- About the Job: Maintain Metro property in clean and orderly condition.
- What You'll Do: Operate cleaning equipment, clean walls windows
and ceilings, remove graffiti, clean and maintain tools and equipment, move office furniture and other equipment, operate Metro vehicles and forklift. - Things You Need to Know: Ensure Metro employees and
public are safe and free of hazards and understand methods materials and equipment used in custodial work. - Abilities You'll Need to Have: Perform moderate physical labor, lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Tolerate exposure to cleaning agents and fumes. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires one year of full-time experience performing custodial work.
- Living Wage Pay Range: $17.40 - $24.85 per hour

Electronic Communication Technician
- About the Job: Maintain and repair electronic equipment used on buses.
- What You'll Do: Install communications and electronic equipment on buses, troubleshoot and repair equipment on buses and other Metro vehicles and perform bench repairs to circuit boards.
- Things You Need to Know: Knowledge of electronic systems and machines and tools, including repair and maintenance.
- Abilities You'll Need to Have: Determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it, safely operate a variety of hand and power tools, travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires graduation from a two-year electronics trade school or college OR three years experience performing maintenance on two-way radios and digital equipment. Must have a valid commercial General Radio/Telephone Operators License.
- Living Wage Pay Range: $30.94 - $38.67 per hour
Facilities System Technician
- About the Job: Maintain and repair mechanical and electrical components and systems across Metro facilities.
- What You'll Do: Preventive maintenance of shop and bus servicing equipment. Drive Metro maintenance vehicles to various locations. Checks and maintains fire pumps, fire sprinklers
and pipes. Install a wide range of electrical apparatus. Design, fabricate and weld parts and equipment. - Things You Need to Know: Knowledge of electronic systems, machines and tools
and their design and uses and knowledge of federal, state and local electrical codes. - Abilities You'll Need to Have: Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Safely operating a variety of hand and power tools. Traveling to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires four years experience performing mechanical and electrical facilities maintenance work AND completion of two years of training or education in Industrial Technology, Electrical Maintenance or a similar program.
- Living Wage Pay Range: $32.38 - $40.48 per hour
Rail Electronic Communication Inspector
- About the Job: Maintain and repair electronic equipment on the Metro Rail right-of-way, public areas
and other Metro locations. - What You'll Do: Install and repair advanced electronic equipment such as public address equipment, fiber optic, CCTV, security alarms and fire detection and suppression. Monitor and oversee the work of contractors to ensure compliance. Review and interpret blueprints. Perform Reg4 fire life safety system inspections.
- Things You Need to Know: Knowledge of electronic systems, fiber optic/microwave networks, radio networks
and advanced communication and alarm systems. - Abilities You'll Need to Have: Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools. Climb heights up to 125 feet. Communicate effectively with others and understand and follow instructions and procedures.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires four years journeyman-level experience performing preventive maintenance of communication equipment and up to two
years training or education in advanced communications. Must be able to obtain a valid commercial General Radio/Telephone Operator's License by the end of the probationary period (120 days). - Living Wage Pay Range: $32.38 - $40.48 per hour
Service Attendant
- About the Job: Service and clean Metro vehicles and equipment.
- What You'll Do: Check fluid levels and dispense fuel oil and coolant in buses. Operate buses through wash stations and around the yard. Clean and remove graffiti from vehicle interiors. Operate forklift and other equipment to move supplies.
- Things You Need to Know: Ensure Metro employees and
public are safe and free of hazards. Understand methods materials and equipment used in custodial work. Knowledge of various vehicles and how to clean and maintain them. - Abilities You'll Need to Have: Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures. Operate and work with computers in a computerized workstation. Tolerate various working conditions and exposure to cleaning agents and fumes.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid California Class C driver's license.
- Living Wage Pay Range: $19.00 - $23.75 per hour

Systems Electronic Communication Technician (Maintenance)
- About the Job: Maintain and repair advanced communications systems within buildings and other fixed locations.
- What You'll Do: Install and repair advanced electronic equipment and systems such as microwave systems, data communications systems, alarm systems
and telephone systems. Set up and operate audio and video equipment in various locations. Program manual and automated test equipment. Create as-built drawings and other technical documentation. - Things You Need to Know: Knowledge of electronic systems and machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair
and maintenance. Knowledge of fiber optic, category 5 cableand public address and alarm systems - Abilities You'll Need to Have: Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Climb heights up to 125 feet. Communicate effectively with others and understand and follow instructions and procedures.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires four years journeyman-level experience performing maintenance of communications equipment, up to two years training or education in advanced communications systems and a valid commercial General Radio/Telephone Operators License.

Administration
Transit Security Officer I
- About the Job: Provide unarmed security for Metro employees and property.
- What You'll Do: Patrol and monitor Metro property and buildings. Monitor handling of Metro monies at ticket offices. Escort vault truck drivers during pick-up of monies. Provide directions to visitors.
- Things You Need to Know: Ensure passengers and bystanders are safe at all times and attention to detail and record keeping. Search and seizure laws.
- Abilities You'll Need to Have: Exercise sound judgment in stressful situations. Write accurate memos of incidents. Communicate effectively with others.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to obtain a valid California Guard Card.
- Living Wage Pay Range: $16.19 - $17.60 per hour
Stock Clerk
- About the Job: Maintain computerized inventory records of vehicle parts and materials.
- What You'll Do: Issue uniforms parts and materials upon request. Receive materials from outside vendors. Operate a computer to verify inventories. Operate a forklift and Metro vehicle for the movement and delivery of materials.
- Things You Need to Know: Ensure Metro employees are safe and free of hazards. Understand methods materials and equipment used in custodial work. Basic arithmetic.
- Abilities You'll Need to Have: Lift and move objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures. Operate and work with computers in a computerized workstation.
- Experience & Education Required: This position usually requires one year experience performing inventory control work in an automated environment and possession of a forklift certification/license.
- Living Wage Pay Range: $20.85 -$ 29.79 per hour
